Equities closed out the week on a constructive note, with geopolitical tensions easing enough to give buyers some confidence. The S&P five hundred gained nearly half a percent on Friday, the Dow added just under a third of a percent, and the Nasdaq one hundred finished in positive territory as well, with September futures holding those gains into the close.
Shifting to the tech and legal space, Apple has filed a blockbuster lawsuit against OpenAI and Jony Ive's hardware startup io Products, alleging trade secret theft. The suit, filed in the Northern District of California, centers on two former Apple employees and arrives as OpenAI prepares to launch a new generation of hardware products shaped heavily by Apple's former design chief.
And OpenAI finds itself under further scrutiny on the security front. Britain's government researchers say the company's latest model, GPT five point six Sol, likely carries cyber vulnerabilities similar to those that triggered United States export controls on Anthropic's Fable five model earlier this year, raising fresh questions about whether OpenAI's security claims can withstand independent review.
