Stocks are under pressure this session, with the S&P five hundred off roughly two thirds of a percent and the Nasdaq one hundred sliding more than one percent. The dual headwinds are familiar: elevated crude oil prices feeding inflation anxiety, and renewed uncertainty around artificial intelligence valuations weighing on growth names.
That crude pressure connects directly to the energy story dominating earnings this cycle. BP reported profits more than doubling in the first quarter, driven by the conflict in Iran pushing energy prices to multiyear highs. Gasoline prices in the United States have hit levels not seen in years, squeezing households, airlines, and logistics operators while energy majors post banner results.
Meanwhile, in softer commodities, arabica coffee futures are up more than one and a half percent today after ICE arabica inventories dropped to a two-month low of just under five hundred thousand bags. Robusta is climbing more than two percent as well. Tighter inventory signals are doing exactly what you'd expect — pulling prices higher as traders price in near-term supply constraints across both major coffee benchmarks.
