In Indianapolis, the Carmel girls track and field program is celebrating back-to-back state championships after a dominant performance at North Central Friday night. The Greyhounds gathered on the infield, let the moment breathe, and when their name was called, the huddle exploded with pure joy. Carmel is the standard right now.
And speaking of state glory in Indiana, Warren Central's Kira Smith is a state champion in the high jump, continuing one of the most remarkable family legacies in Indiana prep sports. Sister Laila won state in the three hundred meter hurdles in twenty twenty four, sister Samaya took state tennis singles in twenty twenty five, and now Kira owns the high jump title. Three sisters, three sports, three gold medals. That family is built different.
Meanwhile, tough news out of the Padres clubhouse as outfielder Ramón Laureano has undergone surgery for a labrum tear and is out indefinitely. San Diego loses one of their veteran outfield pieces at a critical stretch of the season, and the timeline for his return remains unclear. The Padres will need to adjust their roster plans accordingly.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
