Aaron Judge is day to day, and that's the most optimistic thing the Yankees can say right now. The captain missed his third straight game Thursday with a bone bruise in his right rib, which is creating pain all the way up into his right shoulder. Manager Aaron Boone says he expects clarity soon, but New York cannot afford to play this one slow with the division race heating up.
Shifting to Pittsburgh, the Steelers have added linebacker Jamin Davis to their roster. The former first-round pick out of Washington brings athleticism and upside to a defense that's always looking to add chess pieces up the middle. Davis hasn't fully lived up to early expectations in his career, but Pittsburgh has a track record of getting production out of reclamation projects at the linebacker spot.
And down in Atlanta, the Braves made a move at catcher, swinging a deal with the Los Angeles Angels to bring in an experienced backstop. The details are still coming into focus, but Atlanta is clearly positioning itself ahead of the trade deadline, shoring up depth behind the plate as they push for ground in the National League East. The Braves front office is not sitting still.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
