Jon Cooper finally has the hardware to match the resume. After fourteen seasons behind the Tampa bench and two Stanley Cup championships, Cooper has been voted the Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL's coach of the year. Long overdue for a man who has consistently gotten the most out of his roster year after year.
Shifting to baseball, the San Diego Padres have designated Nick Castellanos for assignment, cutting ties after just thirty-nine games in which the veteran outfielder simply couldn't find his footing. The timing stings — this comes one day after Philadelphia gave him a video tribute during his return to Citizens Bank Park. That farewell tour apparently ended faster than anyone expected.
And over in Green Bay, the Packers are bracing for a significant stretch without Micah Parsons, who confirmed he won't be ready to play until at least mid-October as he works back from a torn ACL and a torn meniscus. That's a brutal combination, and it pushes his twenty twenty-six debut well into the heart of the regular season, leaving Green Bay's defense to figure things out without their centerpiece.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
