Australia is World Cup bound and Tony Popovic has made his picks official. The Socceroos coach locked in his final roster on June first, with Cristian Volpato and Nestory Irankunda drawing the most attention as the creative engines Popovic is betting on to make noise when the tournament kicks off.
Shifting to the diamond, Georgia's NCAA regional final win over Liberty had a wild twist. Bulldogs outfielder Tre Phelps crushed a two-run homer in the sixth inning, but his celebration got him ejected before the final out. Head coach Wes Johnson was tossed right along with him. Georgia still rolled to a six-to-one victory and punched their ticket to the Super Regionals, though Phelps and Johnson had to watch the finish from somewhere other than the field.
And over in Nashville, Justin Allgaier delivered for JR Motorsports in the O'Reilly Series, holding off the field to claim the win at Nashville Superspeedway. Jesse Love had taken Stage one, Allgaier grabbed Stage two, and when it counted most he was the last man standing in victory lane, earning his first series win of the season in style.
