The Texas Rangers came out swinging Tuesday night, and we mean that literally. One day after the Houston Astros threw a combined no-hitter against them, the Rangers answered with eight runs in the very first inning, capped by a Joc Pederson three-run blast. According to Yahoo Sports, it's the first time in Major League Baseball since nineteen oh five that a team responded to a no-hitter by dropping eight or more runs the very next game. Statement made.
Meanwhile in Chicago, the Cubs are in genuine freefall. A twelve to one beatdown at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night pushed their losing streak to ten games. What makes it even more remarkable is that CBS Sports reports this is actually the third streak of at least ten games for Chicago this season alone. That kind of volatility is almost impossible to manufacture, and yet here we are.
And in Boston, Michael Harris the second put on a show for Atlanta. Four hits, including a two-run home run, helped the Braves outlast the Red Sox seven to six. Matt Olson also went deep, and Atlanta snapped a two-game slide in the process, winning three of four meetings against Boston this season.
