That triggered a wave of short covering by funds, pushing prices to one and a half week highs. Weather-driven supply shocks in West Africa remain the single biggest variable in this market.
Meanwhile, gold is moving in the opposite direction, edging lower despite an active geopolitical backdrop that includes fresh American military strikes on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remaining closed to oil and energy transit. The paradox here is real — markets appear to be pricing in inflationary risk rather than safe haven demand, which is keeping the pressure on bullion even as the headlines stay hot.
