You're locked in to Sports Desk, let's get into it.
Don Rea Junior is out as president of the PGA of America, and frankly it's hard to call it a surprise. Rea drew serious criticism for his slow and insufficient response to the fan misconduct targeting the European Ryder Cup team, and the organization clearly decided the damage was done.
The golf world pauses for a moment though, because we've got sad news out of Miami. Manny Fernandez, the ferocious defensive lineman who anchored that legendary undefeated seventy-two Dolphins squad, has passed away at seventy-nine years old. Two Super Bowl rings, one of the most dominant defensive fronts in NFL history. A true giant of the game, gone.
And over in the Bronx, Cam Schlittler is quietly building something special. The Yankees right-hander has put together numbers that have him in serious Cy Young conversation, and with the top competition looking shaky across the American League, the runway is wide open. New York hasn't had a legitimate Cy Young contender in years, and this kid might just be the one to change that.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
