The United States and Iran are reportedly closing in on a sixty-day ceasefire extension, paired with a nuclear framework agreement. That fragile truce, in place since early April, has been repeatedly tested by skirmishes near the Strait of Hormuz, and any durable deal would ease one of the most acute pressure points on global oil supply.
That pressure, however, is already leaving marks. European Union officials confirmed Friday that energy prices across the continent will remain elevated above pre-war levels through at least the end of two thousand twenty-seven. EU Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis tied that directly to inflation running at three point one percent this year, with broader consumer prices following energy higher. Europe is essentially telling markets the shock has a long tail.
