The sports world is mourning tonight. NASCAR driver Kyle Busch passed away after suffering a medical emergency while training in a Chevrolet racing simulator at the General Motors Charlotte Technical Center in Concord, North Carolina. He was forty-one years old. NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell remembered Busch as, quote, an American badass, while GM president Mark Reuss called him a true friend, saying he was shocked and devastated by the loss. A complicated, fearless, unforgettable career, now over far too soon.
Shifting to the diamond, the New York Mets have designated Craig Kimbrel for assignment after just fourteen appearances with the club. The thirty-seven-year-old reliever, one of the most decorated closers of his generation, has now found himself without a home once again. Whether another team takes a flier on Kimbrel remains to be seen, but his time in Queens was brief and quiet.
And out in McKinney, Texas, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is separating the sharp from the struggling. Si Woo Kim set the pace with a stunning round of sixty, while several big names packed their bags early. On a course where birdies are practically required, there was simply no room for an off day.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
