Oil is the headline in commodities today. Brent crude dropped five percent to around one hundred five dollars a barrel after three supertankers attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz, raising hopes that energy flows to China and South Korea could resume. That eased supply-shock fears that had been baked into energy prices for weeks.
That crude selloff rippled straight into currency markets. The dollar index, which had climbed to a six-week high earlier in the session, reversed course and ended marginally lower. The logic is straightforward — cheaper oil means softer inflation expectations, which gives the Federal Reserve more room to ease, and that takes wind out of the dollar's sails.
Meanwhile equities found their footing. The S and P five hundred is up roughly a quarter percent on the session, with the Nasdaq one hundred outperforming, gaining more than half a percent on chipmaker strength. Lower bond yields are doing the heavy lifting here, reducing the discount rate on future earnings and giving growth names room to breathe. Meta is trading against a separate headwind after confirming it is cutting eight thousand roles to offset broader investment spending, though the market appears to have largely priced that in.
