Asian technology stocks took a hard hit overnight, with the Nasdaq sell-off rippling across the region and dragging down shares in SK Hynix, Samsung, SoftBank, and TSMC. The Nasdaq Composite has now moved into correction territory, a meaningful threshold that signals a drop of at least ten percent from recent highs, rattling sentiment broadly across the tech sector.
Turning to commodities, the grain complex finished Thursday in mixed fashion. Corn shed one to four and a quarter cents across the board as early gains faded, with the national cash price settling around four dollars and four cents. Soybeans took a sharper hit, falling as much as fourteen cents, while wheat bucked the trend and managed to hold onto modest gains across Chicago, Kansas City, and Minneapolis contracts.
Meanwhile in the credit markets, BlackRock TCP Capital reported third quarter net investment income of sixteen cents per share, falling just short of its regular dividend of seventeen cents. That one-cent shortfall is a signal worth watching for income investors, as business development companies are generally expected to cover their distributions from operating earnings, and a persistent gap there can raise questions about dividend sustainability going forward.
