Welcome to The Light, your quiet hour of reflection.
In Nigeria, the bishops of the church have raised their voices not in condemnation, but in prayer. Three days of fasting and intercession are being observed across the nation, as religious leaders call for elections that are free, peaceful, and worthy of the people who cast their ballots. It is a reminder that democracy, at its best, is also a spiritual act.
From the Holy Land comes something quietly extraordinary. More than three hundred young Catholics, some speaking Hebrew, others Arabic, gathered together in celebration of hope and unity. Organized by the Saint James Vicariate, this youth festival held in a place so often defined by division chose instead to define itself by belonging. Youth, it seems, can still imagine the world differently.
And from the realm of the body, a new study draws our attention to the rhythms we so casually disrupt. Sleep regularity, researchers suggest, carries more weight for our cardiovascular health than we once assumed. The heart, it turns out, keeps its own kind of time, and asks only that we honor it consistently, even on the mornings when rest feels most deserved.
That is this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
