Welcome to The Light, your quiet hour of reflection.
Three thousand years ago, scribes pressed reed into clay and sent words across deserts — pleas for gold, complaints between kings, the small anxieties of powerful people. The Amarna letters remind us that human longing has always been remarkably ordinary, and remarkably urgent.
From ancient correspondence to contemporary canon — Ellah Wakatama has spent her career as editor, agent, publisher, and mentor, working with quiet determination to place the voices of gifted Black writers into the permanent conversation of literature. She is not simply opening doors; she is reshaping which rooms matter.
And in the high air of Cusco, where the Peruvian Andes press close to the sky, Pope Leo the Fourteenth prepares to visit a place one missionary describes as breathing the fullness of life. Father Walter Corsini has served the poor there for thirty years, holding together indigenous spiritual tradition, the weight of tourism, and the daily work of presence. Some places ask something of you before you speak.
That's this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
