Good afternoon and welcome to Markets Desk.
Anthropic is approaching a valuation near two trillion dollars ahead of a potential IPO, and the number is built almost entirely on narrative rather than revenue. That kind of story-driven pricing cuts both ways — it attracts capital fast, but the moment the story wobbles, so does the multiple, and there is very little fundamental floor underneath it.
Shifting to commodities, coffee prices dropped sharply Monday with arabica falling nearly three percent and robusta shedding more than three and a half percent. The catalyst was a nine percent plunge in the Brazilian real after President Lula da Silva's weekend election victory rattled currency markets. Since Brazil dominates global arabica supply, a weaker real makes exports cheaper and pressures dollar-denominated prices.
On the energy side, analysts are flagging Bloom Energy and Solaris Energy as names positioned to benefit from the accelerating power demand tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure. Data centers require enormous and reliable electricity loads, and the urgency around securing dedicated generation capacity is creating a narrow window for specialized energy providers to lock in long-term contracts at favorable terms.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
