Welcome to Tech Beat, your daily read on the stories shaping our world.
In Ukraine, a Kyiv-based engineering firm called CODE three eighty has developed a drone detector that does something genuinely new — it intercepts Russian drone signals and converts them into live video feeds for Ukrainian operators. The device scans a wide radio frequency range, leaving what the team describes as no blind spots, and receives software updates roughly twice a month based on battlefield feedback.
That battlefield context matters more than ever, as Ukraine's President Zelenskyy has confirmed trilateral peace talks involving Russia and the United States are set to take place in November. The talks would mark the first serious diplomatic movement in a conflict now entering its fifth year, though the path from scheduled conversation to meaningful ceasefire remains deeply uncertain.
Shifting to the Balkans, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat in a snap election that drew nearly seventy percent voter turnout — the highest the country has seen since the breakup of Yugoslavia. The result follows nearly two years of student-led protests against corruption and authoritarianism, and marks a significant political inflection point for the region.
Three stories, one thread — technology, diplomacy, and democracy are never really separate conversations. Keep surfing. Tech Beat out.
