Marshall Faulk, Hall of Fame running back and head coach at Southern University, has revealed he's been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Faulk went public with the news during a podcast appearance Wednesday, saying his motivation is simple — he wants to help as many people as he can. A diagnosis that takes courage to share, and a community that will rally behind him.
Shifting to the hardwood, the Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat meet Friday night carrying very different energy out of their openers. Detroit pulled off a historic comeback win to kick off their season, while Miami is looking to regroup. The Pistons will need to avoid the kind of slow start that made that comeback necessary in the first place, or the Heat will make them pay early.
And in the NHL, the Florida Panthers made a statement in goal with the debut of Cooper Black — all six feet nine inches of him. Black set a record as the tallest goaltender to ever appear in an NHL game, standing two full inches above the previous mark held by names like Ben Bishop and Ivan Fedotov. Size alone doesn't win games, but that is a wall between the pipes.
