Welcome to The Light, your quiet hour of reflection.
Four years ago, fire came to Ukraine, and it has not stopped burning. A new documentary gathers the voices of ordinary civilians who have lived inside that violence, that terror, and that stubborn, daily solidarity. Their witness asks us what endurance truly costs, and what it quietly builds.
Across the Atlantic, a different kind of reckoning unfolds. President Trump, on the eighteenth day of his current term, declared a balanced budget within reach, even promising to erase the entire national debt in four years, all without painful cuts. Economists and historians watch carefully, knowing that the distance between a promise posted online and the weight of fiscal reality is rarely short.
And then there is a son, a mother, and Al Pacino. Writer Joe Mullich describes ghostwriting the strange, fervent letters his mother sent to celebrities during her illness. In that odd collaboration, something tender emerged, a shared plane of reality, however brief, however fragile, where two people who struggled to reach each other finally, quietly, met.
That's this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
