Welcome to The Light, a quiet moment to reflect on what matters.
Montell Jordan carried a secret for a decade — ten years of playing piano and organ in his church, a gift he kept carefully hidden from the rest of his life. When that hidden thing finally found the open air, it changed everything. There is something worth sitting with in that: the sacred skills we shelter, and what happens when we finally let them speak.
From Nigeria comes a weight that is harder to hold. Sixteen Christians are killed every day there, according to a new report. In Kaduna State, gunmen entered a rectory before dawn, took eleven people including a parish priest, and left grief behind them. Father Nathaniel Asuwaye spent three months in captivity before his release this spring. His freedom is real. The suffering of those still waiting is equally real.
And in Texas, a state representative argued this week that scripture is silent on the question of life in the womb, making his case at a public forum before voters pressing him on the hardest questions. Whether one agrees or not, the conversation itself reminds us that ancient texts and modern urgency are still finding each other across a very long table.
That is this hour's reflection. Carry the light gently.
