The dollar softened through the session, with the DXY index touching a one-week low, off nearly half a percent. The catalyst was a slide in Treasury yields, with the ten-year note dropping to a three-week low just above five percent, compressing the interest rate differential that had been supporting the greenback.
Shifting to the consumer side, the Social Security Administration confirmed a three-point-six percent cost-of-living adjustment for two thousand twenty-seven, the largest annual increase since two thousand twenty-three. That translates to roughly seventy-five additional dollars per month for retirees, with the higher payments reaching all seventy-two million beneficiaries starting January of that year.
And on the labor and education front, a new working paper from Census Bureau researchers identified which college majors carry the least exposure to AI displacement at the entry level. Education and healthcare fields ranked among the most insulated, while graduates in high-exposure fields already show measurably lower employment rates and earnings than peers in less-affected disciplines, a signal worth watching as enrollment decisions shift.
