Dollar strength is doing real damage in the soft commodities pit today. December arabica coffee is off more than one percent, with November robusta following lower, as the dollar index climbs to a one-and-a-half-year high. When the greenback rallies that sharply, dollar-denominated commodities become more expensive for foreign buyers, and long holders head for the exits fast.
Shifting to equities, Tesla remains one of the more debated valuations on the street, and for good reason. The stock trades at multiples that would make most tech investors blush, let alone auto analysts. The argument from bulls is straightforward — this is not a car company. The real thesis lives in robotics and autonomous ride-hailing, businesses that, if they scale, would justify a technology-style premium rather than any traditional manufacturing multiple.
And on the consumer side, student-loan borrowers navigating the collapse of the SAVE repayment program are getting a final notice giving them thirty additional days to select a new plan. Miss that window, and the government places you in the most expensive option by default. Borrowers are reporting confusion, and the conflicting guidance coming from servicers is not helping.
