San Diego is moving on. The Padres finished off the Cubs in a clean two-game wild card sweep, winning four to one behind five pitchers who held Chicago to just five hits. Gavin Sheets delivered the knockout blow off the bench, a two-run pinch-hit homer that put it out of reach. Cubs fans are left wondering when this roster finally turns the corner.
Meanwhile in the WNBA, Arike Ogunbowale just put on one of the most jaw-dropping individual performances in playoff history. The Dallas Wings guard poured in forty-five points to force overtime and then finished off the Golden State Valkyries one hundred eight to one hundred, forcing a Game three back in the Bay. That is a record-breaking night by any measure, and the Valkyries now have to regroup fast on their home floor.
And in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys have added a premier cornerback, landing Joey Porter Junior away from Pittsburgh. Word is two other NFC clubs were in pursuit before Dallas closed the deal, making this a significant roster move with real conference-wide implications heading into the second half of the season.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
