You're tuned into Sports Desk, let's get into it.
Tony Vitello is wrapping up his first year managing the San Francisco Giants with a record nobody wanted — ejected for the seventh time this season, the most of any manager in Major League Baseball. Seven ejections in one year is a statement, and not the kind you frame on the wall.
Shifting to what may have been a farewell performance for the ages — Max Scherzer took the mound for Toronto in the final day of the regular season and was absolutely locked in. Seven innings, seven strikeouts, one hundred and fourteen pitches, and a win over Cincinnati. If that's the last time we see Mad Max on a big league mound, he went out exactly the way you'd want him to.
And in Texas, the Rangers couldn't pull off the miracle they needed. A six to four loss to Minnesota on the final day knocked them out of postseason contention — they needed a win and a Houston loss, got neither. Josh Bell went off for three RBIs and Dean Kremer was untouchable for seven innings as the Twins sent the defending World Series champions home early.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
