Welcome to Tech Beat. Here are the stories shaping the conversation today.
AWS has expanded Elastic Beanstalk with a new Cluster Mode, running applications on EKS clusters the service manages directly. Clusters are tied to their subnet at creation and cannot be reassigned later. Worth noting for budget-conscious teams: the added EKS and Auto Mode fees fall outside the reach of standard EC2 discounts.
Shifting to infrastructure at a policy level, the European Commission has proposed a labeling scheme for data centers, similar to the energy ratings consumers already see on home appliances. Any facility drawing five hundred kilowatts or more would be required to disclose energy and water consumption, with regulators also eyeing how that usage stacks up against local resource pressures.
And in a story that is equal parts policy and linguistics, President Trump told the United Nations this week that the term artificial intelligence should be retired in favor of superintelligence. His reasoning: the word artificial makes intelligence sound fake. Whether the global technology industry follows that particular rebranding initiative remains, to put it gently, an open question.
