Breanna Stewart made history in Minneapolis on Friday night, dropping twenty-four points to lead the New York Liberty past the Minnesota Lynx ninety-three to eighty-one. In the process, Stewart surpassed Hall of Famer Sue Bird for ninth place on the WNBA's all-time scoring list, reaching six thousand eight hundred and six career points. Bird needed nineteen seasons to get there. Stewart did it in ten.
Shifting to the diamond, Jose Trevino came through in the clutch for Cincinnati, lining a two-run single to right field with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to lift the Reds over the Chicago Cubs six to four. The Cubs had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but Michael Busch was caught stealing to end it. Chicago drops two of three and slips to eighty-five and sixty-nine.
And out west, Stephen Curry confirmed what Golden State fans had been whispering about all summer. He actively recruited LeBron James to the Warriors before James signed with Philadelphia. Curry's response was about as honest as it gets, saying anyone who didn't try would be a fool. Respect the candor, Steph.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
