The US Treasury's financial crimes unit is pressing banks to do better when it comes to reporting cyber scams. FinCEN flagged suspicious activity across nearly thirty-four thousand filings, pointing to almost thirteen billion dollars in losses since twenty twenty three. Only thirteen hundred institutions filed reports, which tells you the visibility gap here is enormous.
Shifting to the ocean floor, scientists have developed perovskite solar panels capable of generating power ten meters underwater. Each unit can capture over three hundred twenty four milliwatt hours of energy and is designed to last more than five years. The target market is underwater drones and research equipment — devices that currently face a real challenge staying powered on long deployments.
And Snapchat's chief executive Evan Spiegel told the BBC the company is willing to implement daily time limits for teenage users, calling it an important step forward for the industry. That word "willing" is doing a lot of work in that sentence — it's a gesture toward accountability, but the pressure from regulators and parents is clearly what's moving the needle here.
