Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers are pushing hard for one final curtain call. The forty-three-year-old legend is recovering from a hamstring injury, and both sides are holding out hope he can take the mound one last time during a planned two-day farewell celebration. After everything Verlander has given that franchise, they want to send him off right.
Shifting to the NFL, and the Los Angeles Rams are dealing with a massive blow just days into their season. Superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett is headed to injured reserve after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on his knee. He'll miss at least four games, including matchups against legitimate playoff contenders. For a Rams defense that brought Garrett in to be its cornerstone, this is a brutal early setback.
And over in the Premier League, Brighton put on an absolute clinic, dismantling ten-man Coventry five to nothing on Sunday. Charalampos Kostoulas got the party started in the first half, Malick Yalcouye extended the lead after the break, and Brighton climbed into fourth place while Frank Lampard's Coventry side finds itself sitting at the very bottom of the table.
