Good morning, you're listening to Markets Desk.
August inflation came in sticky, with the all-items consumer price index rising three point four percent annually, matching prior readings and landing right at the Dow Jones consensus for a zero point four percent monthly gain. Core prices, stripping out food and energy, added zero point two percent, giving the Fed little reason to soften its tone heading into its next policy meeting.
That print is already moving markets on the rates side, with traders pushing up their bets on further Federal Reserve tightening. The persistence of fuel costs is doing a lot of the work here — energy hasn't cooperated with the disinflationary story the market had been hoping to write, and that complicates the Fed's calculus considerably as September's high-stakes meeting approaches.
Away from macro, Polymarket is making a serious institutional statement by hiring Warren Jenson as its first chief financial officer. Jenson is no newcomer to the corner office — he has held the CFO seat at Amazon, Delta Air Lines, Electronic Arts, and NBC. Bringing that kind of Fortune five hundred pedigree into a prediction markets platform signals Polymarket is building for scale, not just credibility.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
