Adley Rutschman was the story, launching a two-run shot in the second inning at Fenway as Brayan Bello worked through five solid innings. The Angels, meanwhile, continue to find new and creative ways to suffer.
Shifting to the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys are already dealing with injury trouble before a single regular season snap. All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith is heading into thumb surgery and landing on injured reserve, expected to miss four to six weeks. That's at least the first four games gone for one of the best offensive linemen in football, and the Cowboys open against the Giants. Bad timing doesn't begin to cover it.
And in Cleveland, the Shedeur Sanders situation just got more complicated. Head coach Todd Monken confirmed Monday that Sanders, who lost the starting job to Deshaun Watson in the offseason, might not even be active for Week One. Not inactive as in limited — inactive as in not dressing. For a first-round pick, that is a stunning development heading into the season opener.
