A frightening moment out of Houston today as Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was struck in the helmet by a line drive and had to exit Sunday's game against the Astros. Perdomo was evaluated immediately, and while the full extent is still being assessed, any time a player takes a ball to the head at that velocity, you hold your breath and hope for the best.
Shifting to Seattle, the Mariners have called up their number four prospect, infielder and outfielder Michael Arroyo, straight from Triple-A to make his major league debut against the Athletics. Arroyo arrives with serious buzz around him, and the Mariners are clearly ready to see what this kid can do at the highest level. Debut day is always something special.
And in New York, the Giants have locked up quarterback Jameis Winston on a two-year, thirteen million dollar extension, keeping their key backup firmly in place heading into the season. Winston brings veteran presence and starting experience to a room that needs exactly that kind of insurance behind center. The Giants made their move and they made it fast.
