In Austin, Westlake football is making a statement early. The Chaparrals rolled to two and oh on the season Friday night, dismantling visiting Trinity from the Dallas area by a final of thirty-five to ten. Westlake held the Trojans scoreless in the first quarter, led fourteen to three at the half, and then pulled away with twenty-one second-half points including a defensive touchdown. The Chaps are looking like a problem.
Over in San Antonio, Madison's defense is quietly becoming one of the most dominant units in early Texas high school football. The Mavericks shut out Jay twenty-one to nothing at Heroes Stadium Friday, their second consecutive shutout to open the season. Back to back goose eggs to start a year is rare, and Madison is building something real on that side of the ball.
And on the college side, all eyes are on Baton Rouge as LSU and Clemson square off today in what shapes up as one of the marquee early-season matchups in the country. Lane Kiffin has overhauled the Tigers roster with a wave of high-profile transfers, and this game against a Clemson program that never rebuilds, it only reloads, will tell us exactly what Kiffin is working with.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
