UMass football is breathing again. The Minutemen snapped a brutal sixteen-game losing streak Thursday night with a stunning upset over Rutgers in Piscataway, and former Virginia Tech quarterback Pop Watson was the engine behind it all. Watson, the former Massachusetts high school player of the year, transferred and immediately delivered the biggest win the program has seen in years.
Speaking of stunning developments, out of Louisiana, a judge has handed Lane Kiffin and LSU a significant legal win. East Baton Rouge Parish Judge William Jorden issued a preliminary injunction against the NCAA Thursday night, clearing the way for LSU to potentially add former NFL players to their roster. The ruling came just hours before the Tigers were set to submit their official hundred-and-five man roster to the SEC, which had threatened heavy punishment over the eligibility dispute.
And in Indianapolis, the Colts quarterback room has a new pecking order. Anthony Richardson has officially locked down the backup job behind Daniel Jones, edging out Riley Leonard in what by all accounts was a genuinely competitive fight. Richardson, once dangled in trade talks, now stays put and gives the Colts a dynamic insurance policy with real upside.
