Bill Belichick's second season at North Carolina is barely underway, and already the question marks are piling up. The Tar Heels kicked off their campaign in Ireland against TCU in a Week Zero showdown, and the program's direction under the legendary NFL coach remains very much under scrutiny. Whether Belichick can translate his pro pedigree into sustained college success is a debate that's only getting louder.
Speaking of that Ireland opener, the sights and sounds out of Dublin delivered exactly what you'd hope from a marquee international matchup. For the fifth consecutive year, college football planted its flag on foreign soil to open the season, and the atmosphere did not disappoint. North Carolina and TCU gave fans on both sides of the Atlantic a genuine reason to tune in early.
And then there's Angel Reese, who caught a massive break Friday night. A technical foul in the fourth quarter against the Portland Fire threatened to trigger a suspension for Atlanta's leading rebounder, but the call was rescinded after review. Reese and Fire guard Carla Leite got tangled chasing a loose ball, officials made the wrong read, and the league corrected course before it cost Reese a game.
